In the early years of the present century, a collector of erotic art with a particular interest in drawings on transgender themes opened a Tumblr blog to showcase their growing collection. Unsurprisingly, at the core of this collection were the graphite drawings of Kimberley Wilder, perhaps the pre-eminent artist working in this rather niche genre of erotic art. Kimberley, whose art you can see here, was invited to follow the blog, and contributed a number of original works to it over the years of the blog’s existence. Other artists were attracted to the group, many of whom created new work for it, both transsexual and otherwise.
Always on the lookout for fresh material on their favourite theme, the blog owner, another amateur artist working mainly in the transgender genre, stumbled upon a small collection of simple but compelling line-art sketches entitled ‘Skinny Shemales’ by an artist working under the name Bobby Luv. Bobby was contacted through the website on which he had posted the sketches, and accepted an invitation to join the group. This was the start of a productive relationship in which Bobby contributed a substantial body of original drawings to the blog, often inspired by scenarios suggested by the blog owner. The encouragement Bobby received from them and other blog followers seems to have motivated him to make new art on a scale which he might not otherwise have attempted; over time his work developed from simple line-art sketches to more highly finished graphite drawings, with fully modelled figures, effects of light and shade, with scenarios in varied settings, including farms, schoolrooms, castles, shops, Central Park, sitting rooms and so on. His style was unmistakable – lively, full of energy and potent erotic suggestion.
Though he was associated with the blog for a number of years, Bobby revealed very little of himself, except that he probably lives in the United States, possibly in New York. He never offered commentaries on individual pictures and never tried to explain why he made this singular type of erotica. He didn’t really need to – art like Bobby’s speaks for itself and springs from very personal impulses, urges and desires; it expresses aspects of the artist's psyche which are essentially private and difficult to express in words. According to the blog owner, however, there is one thing which can be said of Bobby with reasonable confidence – he is a strong-minded individual who refuses to compromise when faced with criticism. Urged to keep things realistic by members who disliked the exaggeration in his pictures, he stuck to his guns and drew exactly what he wanted to draw.
Not all of Bobby’s work is transgender-themed; he also ventured into a wide range of other areas, including female domination and lesbianism. We have included a portfolio dedicated to this work.
Unfortunately the blog disappeared when Tumblr decided to exclude ‘adult’ material, and a lot of excellent work disappeared with it. Happily, Bobby’s drawings can still be found in various corners of the internet, and this collection has been curated by the former owner of the Tumblr blog, whose online persona was Sarah Swain. We are very grateful to them for sharing this collection.
It’s quite possible that other visitors to honesterotica may have been followers of the blog which included Bobby Luv’s art, and if so do contact us, especially if you have artwork from the old forum that we haven’t included.
