Rika Deryckere is best known as a painter, but in the smaller and tighter mediums of drawings, prints and linocuts her skill in depicting energy and movement in monochrome is just as striking. Much of this work dates from the period around 2005, when she participated in an exhibition titled ‘Expo X’ in Saint Hippolyte-du-Fort – the drawings explore various aspects of self-pleasure and kink, while the prints and linocuts achieve a power and sensuality which is a considerable achievement in these stark, monochrome techniques.
