‘The Street’ is Oliver Frey’s semi-autobiographical black and white strip which appeared in the early issues of HIM magazine. The comic appeared as panels spread across three pages of the magazine. Sadly, due to the changes made when Millivres took the magazine over, Frey only drew the strip for nine months, so we were left with just 27 artwork boards.
‘The Street’ contained a lot of gritty realism, and the gay television producer Russell T. Davies has said that in his formative years ‘Rogue’ and the feel of ‘The Street’ not only reconciled himself to his sexual inclinations, but were a part of the inspiration behind his cult TV series ‘Queer as Folk’.
