This Sasha Neschastnova series looks at how these these three words relate to each other, and what they mean in the context of contemporary society.

War begins with ourselves, somewhere deep inside. In the modern world, information wars and topics are beneficial for its maintenance. We know what we can say and what we cannot say. People attach great importance to the fact that they fit themselves into the norms of the world, forgetting about themselves and their personal desires and qualities, often entering into a complete dissonance between what they say and what they do. The main problem of society is that so many people have forgotten how to think for themselves. They no longer know how to process information, and blindly believe what they are told.

Prostitutes Warming Abandoned Kittens, 2021

Who usually wins a war? Are there winners and losers, or will everyone be hurt? Any war hurts everybody involved; even the winners will be morally destroyed. The most important thing is to create conditions for the peace to exist, and this can happen on the smallest scale, sometimes quite unexpectedly. In the painting ‘Prostitutes Warming Abandoned Kittens’, two women warm up abandoned kittens on the track in the cold. It doesn't matter who you are, what matters is what kind of person you are at heart.

People acknowledge that there are big environmental problems, but they keep throwing their trash and throwing their plastic bags all over the place. People who worry about the environment or talk a lot about it sometimes behave quite adversarially, forgetting that sharing the challenges and concerns can be the most productive way to support positive change. But putting our heads in the sand is equally counterproductive – pretending that everything is fine in the world is like spending the summer in a fur coat.

And what about sex, is it part of the structure of power, money and influence, or does it have the potential to liberate us?
