Here is Mark Price’s explanation of this series of coloured drawings: ‘In the Time to Come is a prophetic series of drawings suggested by the changes we are experiencing in our sexual landscape, as we come into the brave new world predicted by Aldous Huxley. By prophetic I mean that in the fictional sense and just for fun, it is more ‘what if?’ than ‘what’s to be’. I don’t think you have to be gifted with foresight to see that our culture has been opening up sexually and will continue to do so. That this opening up has been driven by art and fantasy much more than physical desire is clear to me, so in the interest of doing my part I have come up with these drawings and captioned them to tell a story about the time to come, and its changing sexual landscape.’
The titles of the images are:
In the time to come we will serve the snake queen with great ardour
And contort our bodies to bind her to us
What was only for the sexually adventurous will become kind of normal
Gay and straight will give way to gender ambivalence
People will go naked all over the place, even circus performers
But we will live in cubicles provided be the state
And though weird sex will be obligatory, we won't show our faces
Nor will we tell our true stories
Until boy meets goddess, and we do it all over again
