Between 2003 and 2010 one of Phillip Dvorak’s main projects was a series of line etchings, hand-coloured with gouache and watercolour, each produced in a limited edition of between 25 and 50. Printed on a sand-coloured paper, they explore the gaunt landscape of the naked human body, often accompanied by Dvorak’s trademark hummingbirds and red roses. Dolls and skulls also make an appearance.
In some of the images he experiments with multiple superimpositions of body parts, and there is also experimentation with gender; are his transsexuals actual models or products of Dvorak’s rich imagination?
Many of Phillip Dvorak’s hand-coloured etchings are for sale, and can be found on his website here.
