This series was inspired by an anecdote told to Jannin by a friend who lived in London at the time. One of the friend’s male companions, under the influence of dope, decided to become a woman. He made up his face, wore dresses and high heels.

Jannin was inspired to experiment with the idea of cross-dressing, then as many of the photographs his friend showed him included latex Jannin gradually extended the series into the depiction of sadomasochistic practices.

When the series was exhibited in Paris, one of the visitors, a sex worker, congratulated Jannin, convinced that he worked at the Donjon, a Parisian mecca for BDSM. It wasn’t true, but as Patrick says, ‘I was not a little proud. Like a good actor, I had learned my role so well that even the professionals were taken in.’
