Alain Bonnand is a French artist known for his erotic-surrealist works that explore dreamlike and fantastic themes. He grew up in Crosne, a south-eastern suburb of Paris, and studied at the Met de Penninghen school of art direction and interior architecture, followed by periods in the faculty of plastic arts at Vincennes and in the workshops of Paris.

In 1973 he moved to the south of France, and taught plastic arts to secondary school teachers for many years. Alongside his teaching, in the mid-1970s he started exploring the potential of drawing and etching to create works combining surrealist elements with strongly sexual themes, and held his first exhibition in 1977. As his work gradually reached a larger audience it became more explicit, so by the time Vous avez dit bizarre was published in 1991 he had produced several hundred of his trademark erotic-surrealist drawings.

Bonnand now lives and works in Saint-Cyprien, on the French Mediterranean coast near the border with Spain, and exhibits regularly, mostly in Perpignan.

Alain Bonnand’s website can be found here, and his Facebook page where he regularly shows new work is here.

We are very grateful to our Russian friend Yuri for suggesting including this artist, and for supplying many of the images.
