Until around 2010 Alain Bonnand worked almost exclusively in monochrome pencil, with a just a few colour drawings to break the mould. Here we have some of those drawings, like Le perte-clés (The Lost Key) from 1983 and Cadrage (Framed) from 1984, leaving us maybe wishing that he had experimented more often.

More recently, however, he has returned regularly to a theme visited occasionally in his earlier work – exhibitionist/voyeuristic scenes featuring naked figures, usually young and female, set in everyday landscapes. And these are presented both in colour and naturalistically, the only remaining surrealist element being the incongruity of the naked figure in a conventionally clothed setting.
