Alexander Shappo, who grew up in Vitebsk, Belarus, is a multifaceted artist whose work spans sculpture, lithography, and painting. A graduate of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, Shappo is a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists and has participated in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

While Shappo’s oeuvre is diverse, his exploration of the human form often delves into themes of sensuality and eroticism. His graphic works, particularly his coloured lithographs, frequently address subjects such as love, passion, and the human experience. The images are characterised by expressive lines and the symbolic use of colour, conveying deep emotional narratives.

Alexander Shappo is also well known as a sculptor; his pieces, primarily crafted in bronze, exhibit a distinctive style marked by deliberate distortions and expressive, sometimes grotesque, forms.

In 2006 Shappo held a personal exhibition titled Ecce Femina at the Museum of Modern Fine Art in Minsk, Belarus, which focused on the female form. In 2015 he participated in the Erotic and Genre Project at the Gallery of the Belarusian Union of Designers in Minsk, further showcasing his engagement with erotic themes. He currently lives and works in Minsk.

Alexander Shappo’s website is here, and his Facebook page here, though he hasn’t posted any new work there since 2021.

We are very grateful to our Russian friend Yuri for suggestion the inclusion of this artist, and for supplying most of the images.
