Blog
This is the honesterotica blog, where every month or so we will post a thought-provoking article on a subject related to the content of the site.
Here are a few of the subjects that we are planning to cover; do feel free to suggest ideas of your own!
- Why is it that French writers, thinkers and illustrators dominate the genre? Is there really ‘une exception française’ – a uniquely 'French exceptionalism’?
- How should artists and illustrators handle the delicate subject of children and sexuality?
- The recent history of censorship and illustration.
- Where have all the good erotic illustrators gone?
- The role of illustration in good sex and relationships education.
- What does feminist erotic illustration look like?
- Does the visual imagination of extreme eroticism foster exploitation or mitigate it?
Our new 700 Artists Appeal
It seems only yesterday that we were celebrating having reached 600 artists (it was actually just over a year ago), but here we are at 700 and counting! When we started this project seven years ago we could not have imagined that the world could possibly contain so much high-quality erotic artwork; how wrong we were. Seven years, 700 artists, more than 100,000 high-quality images, by far the world’s best and most comprehensive resource for important erotic art and illustration.
An added bonus (for those who haven’t discovered it yet!)
We’ve realised recently that a lot of people are enjoying the website but missing out on one of its most useful and interesting features. Not only does every one of our 700 artists include a full biography with links to resources and websites as appropriate, but so does every portfolio.
Exploring the value of homoerotic art
This post has been contributed by Barry and Gwen from Vallot Auctioneers in Providence, Rhode Island, to whom we extend grateful thanks.
Statistics, statistics
It’s always interesting to know what our followers find the most interesting on the website, which now has 615 artists, 1,715 portfolios, and 51,305 artworks. Yes, by far the largest resource for erotic art and illustration on the internet, if not in the world!
Your favourites, Part 5 (and last)
Welcome to the last of our ‘five favourite images’ blog posts, celebrating the goal of reaching 500 artists whose erotic work is now available on the honesterotica website (in fact 515 already!). This time it’s from our French friend Benjamin, who has already contributed his thoughts on what erotic art means to him – you’ll find those here. Thank you Benjamin.

Your favourites, Part 3
Another set of favourite images, this time from Aly.
There’s still plenty of time to tell us about your favourite images, so choose yours today and head for the information about how to send your contribution, which you’ll find here. We’re all part of this important project, and your input matters …
Your favourites, Part 2
More of our regular visitors have written to us with their five favourite images from the site, Georges and Sir Javier. You can see their choices below.
Honesterotica and the fair use of images
As anyone who visits this site regularly will know, the amount of material we have brought together over the years is pretty phenomenal – more than 650 artists, nearly 2,000 portfolios, and well over 100,000 images. We put a lot of effort into ensuring that our images are the best possible quality, often scanning them directly from the original printed sources.
