The Belgian artist Hedwig Pauwels is best known for his prints and etchings, combining colour, humour and literary allusion in dynamic, carefully-constructed compositions. Pauwels trained at the Catholic University in Leuven and the Campus Sint-Lucas in Ghent, the foremost college in Flanders dedicated to art and design. After graduating he taught etching, wood engraving, screen printing and lithography for more than forty years at the Institute for Higher Education in Hasselt.

Pauwels is a popular artist throughout the world of etching and printmaking, especially among collectors of ex libris or bookplates. The Frederikshavn Kunst-Museum in Denmark holds a large collection of his work.

We are very grateful to our Russian friend Yuri for introducing us to the work of this artist, and for supplying most of the images.
