For once there is almost nothing to say about this Frédillo portfolio, as we know nothing about its publishing history – and the ten images speak for themselves. We might say something about the history of relationships between painter and model and to what extent mutual consent is involved, though all three participants here (lucky bellboy) appear to be willing participants.
We might also mention that the last time a complete set of these rare prints came on the market in London in 2014, from the library of the well-known collector Tony Fekete, it fetched £3,250, more than double the auctioneer’s estimate.
