Des amours is the second collaboration between Hippolyte Romain and Alexandre Dupouy, bringing together illustrations inspired again by the erotic poetry of Paul Verlaine, but this time adding Verlaine-related works by Arthur Rimbaud and Philomène by Eugéniè Mathilde.
In this collection Romain moves from pure black line to a combination of line and monochrome watercolour wash, thus adding a subtlety to his trademark drawings, illustrations which seem very simple but which convey a great deal of expression, interaction and sense of period.
Des amours was published by Éditions Astarté; copies are still available through this link.
