Dobkowski’s Nokturn (Nocturne) series, created between 1999 and 2010, explores a halfway stage between the almost-monochrome of Karnawał w Rio and the full colour of many of his later paintings.

Again extending to more than fifty canvases, the dark brooding imagery of Nokturn looks at the shadow side of the erotic, with its ghostly faces and looming shapes.
