In the Woods and on the Heath: Another Book of Prayers is a collection of forty-eight exceptional pieces of erotic prose and poetry by twenty-four authors, covering a wide variety of different perspectives on the subject, crossing the lines of straight, gay, lesbian, queer, fetish, high art, lowbrow, classic and contemporary.
Moving away from the medieval design vocabulary of its predecessor, The Book of Hours, and inspired by turn-of-the-nineteenth-century book illustration, Jan van Rijn produced an opulent collection of his trademark monochrome images, lush and sensuous, explicit, tender, vulnerable and bold.
The contributors to the book are Michael Ampersant, Carlos Atanes, Vanessa de Largie, Carmenica Diaz, Paulo Furtado, Ina Gold, Gabriel Hart, Aoi Kotsuhiroi, Jiz Lee, Carmine Mangone, Camille MM, Nomi Ruiz, Annemarie Ryders, Xóchil Schütz, Ben John Smith, Annie Sprinkle, Ellen Stagg, Tarah Una and Shawna Virago, with historical contributions by Luis Aragon, Aleister Crowley, Paul Eluard, Ben Hecht and Horst Jansen.
In the Woods and on the Heath was privately published by Jan van Rijn in a limited numbered edition of 100 copies.
