The Edifumetto/Biffignandi series Biancaneve, which ran for 94 issues in four series between 1972 and 1978, was loosely based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, although after the first issue the storyline quickly lost much resemblance to its source. Edifumetto’s parody recounts the sexual adventures of a buxom Snow White in a medieval world populated by horny princes and queens together with a menagerie of scary historical characters and excitable fairytale creatures. Biffignandi created all the covers for the series, and always said it was his favourite title to work on.
In association with a Biffignandi exhibition in Perguia Palazzo della Penna in 2014, Lo Scarabeo published L’arte di Alessandro Biffignandi as a limited volume of 560 numbered copies, and at the same time also released Biancaneve, a portfolio of ten new paintings in a deluxe edition of 60 numbered and signed copies, and a ‘standard’ edition of 100 copies featuring eight illustrations.
We have included here the ten paintings from the Lo Scarabeo portfolio, together with a selection of covers from the original series.
