Eddy Varekamp is a master of the print, whether linocut or stencilled, and his training in textile design shines clearly through his clean, sparse, witty designs. Obvious influences are Henri Matisse, Kees van Dongen and Pablo Picasso, but Varekamp’s simplicity of line and ability to convey a narrative are remarkable.
Many of the scenes are domestic rather than erotic, and the easy curves of his naked unembarrassed bodies demonstrate that good erotic art can be both at the same time.
