Le libertinage du retroussé (The Freedom of Rolling Up) was Hérouard’s second commission for a cross-dressing title for Jean Fort’s erotic imprint Aux galants passe-temps, and another collaboration with Mme Donville (who also wrote under the names of ‘Liane Laure’, ‘Liane Lauré’, ‘Liane de Lorys’, ‘Liane de Lauris’ and ‘Lucette de Chatay’).
Almost the only times that the verb ‘retrousser’ is used these days is in ‘retrousser ses manches’, to roll up one’s sleeves, but here Donville was using it in a much wider sense – to roll up and let loose pretty much all your clothing and enjoy the pleasures thus revealed.
Le libertinage du retroussé was published by Aux galants passe-temps in a numbered edition of 2000 copies.
