’Pour des soupirs’ (for the sighs), the subtitle of the Ventian scene, refers to the Bridge of Sighs, while the Souliotes of the Greek plate were a warlike community from the area of Souli, famous for their resistance to the Ottoman Pashalik of Yanina.
