This portfolio of erotic engravings appears to be the only such series that Marcel Słodki produced, probably shortly after he moved to Paris in 1923 and started experimenting with etching. Given his interest in a variety of sexual liaisons it maybe also predates his relationship with Masha Boulanger, but is typical of erotic portfolios of the period.
If we did not know its provenance, it would be very easy to pass this portfolio off as having been created in the 1970s. Plus ça change.
We are very grateful to Hans-Jürgen Döpp for these images; Hans-Jürgen, the compiler of many books on erotic art, curates the Venusberg online gallery and bookshop which you can find here.
