hese twelve framed drawings were part of the November 2016 auction at Cornette de Saint Cyr of the contents of the Musée de l’Érotisme when it was forced to close its doors. Whether these are all the letters that Thiercelin produced we do not know, but they are highly original, and leaves us wondering why nobody had thought of such a series before.

Complete with bushy pubic hair, dribbles of creamy semen, and her trademark yellow-brown framing brushstrokes, the Phallic Alphabet is one of Edith Thiercelin’s abiding legacies.
