There is remarkably little to say about this set of competent, understated homoerotic drawings privately published in Berlin in 1921, in a limited numbered edition of sixty copies. It has been suggested that the artist was Russian, though the style is not distinctive enough to give us any clues as to their identity.

Homosexuality was a constant undercurrent in Weimar Berlin, so there would have been no lack of clientele for such a tasteful and well-executed portfolio.

We are very grateful to Hans-Jürgen Döpp for these images; Hans-Jürgen, the compiler of many books on erotic art, curates the Venusberg online gallery and bookshop which you can find here.
