This portfolio of original erotic watercolours dates from the same period as Geiger’s published portfolio, Zehn Erotische Aquarelle (Ten Erotic Watercolours), but being originals rather than prints retain the freshness and spirit of their subject matter better than the published version. Geiger clearly liked his women rounded and his men well-muscled.

Some of these watercolours are clearly the originals from which the prints for Zehn Erotische Aquarelle were created; it is interesting to note the difference in quality between original and published version.

In many ways this portfolio would have made a very good sex manual, a Joy of Sex equivalent,  for the sensualists of a century ago.

We are very grateful to Hans-Jürgen Döpp for these images; Hans-Jürgen, the compiler of many books on erotic art, curates the Venusberg online gallery and bookshop which you can find here.
