Uniquely among Castillo’s portfolios of etchings from the early 1970s, Pornographisme is his only work to focus on what distinguishes erotic art from pornographic imagery. By juxtaposing many of the elements often found in porn and simplifying them to their artistic elements – male voyeurism, the varieties of the erect penis, naked bodies seen from the end of the bed – he explores (and helps his viewers explore) exactly what makes an erotic image erotic.

Pornographisme was published by Manus-Presse in a limited numbered edition of 96 copies.

We are very grateful to Hans-Jürgen Döpp for these images; Hans-Jürgen, the compiler of many books on erotic art, curates the Venusberg online gallery and bookshop which you can find here.
