‘Jagen’ is the name given to individual sections in the forests surrounding Berlin. In Jagen 86 there is a large clearing in the forest near the Teufelsee where in summertime people, mostly older men, come together to sunbathe naked and cruise, as depicted in Alain Guiraudie’s 2013 erotic thriller movie L’inconnu du lac (Stranger by the Lake).

As Scheibner explains, ‘These gouaches were initially only intended as sketches, as a warm-up for oil paintings, but then I said to myself why bother? Who needs large oil canvases on this subject? So I left it at that.’
