This sequence of paintings, made in 2000–1, explores the theme of violence in modern society, specifically sexual violence, and as in several of Deng’s series each painting includes a linking motif, in this case guns.
It is not hard to imagine a narrative that runs through the sequence, where the two protagonists start off with blindfolds, which when they discard them at the end the man understands something about his role in the interaction and points the gun at his own head.
