Loris Vercelli’s ‘LoVer’ compositions include both contemporary references to everyday Italian life and politics – it’s useful to know that ‘NO TAV’ refers to the controversial Treno Alta Velocità (High-speed Train) plan for a new railway route from Turin to Lyon. But there are also plenty of bug-eyed creatures, skeletons and other-worldly beings lurking in the background of the young LoVers.
Vercelli’s work can verge on the kitsch and stereotyped, but these is just enough edginess and wit to make his art worth spending time with.
