This set of twelve illustrations, produced during Chimot’s ‘Spanish’ period, has all the hallmarks of having been produced quickly and cheaply. He was at this time producing so many illustrations for Deux-Rives that a request to illustrate Prélude charnel was almost inevitable (see the page describing the book’s fascinating history here).
Chimot’s later illustrations may be to some connoisseur’s taste, but unless you are into 1950s erotic nostalgia they add very little to his reputation.
