Felix d’Eon has a talent for taking almost any traditional art style and infusing it with his own queer subject matter. As he explains in relation to these Japanese-inspired works, ‘My tastes are wide ranging, and I love traditional styles from different cultures. These artworks are based on my love for the Japanese aesthetic, and my Japanese friend writes poetry in Japanese on my paintings. It’s a lovely collaboration – we come up with ideas that are respectful but also funny. I’m influenced very much by traditional Japanese artists like Hokusai and Utamaro. I create my own style within that genre, and it ends up feeling like that era but very much my own style.’
