This collection was published by Selen, the Italian adult comic magazine imprint, and brings together six of Giuseppe Manunta’s best-known graphic stories. Typical of his early career before his work was regularly compiled into collections for the French market, it showcases his trademark sensual, soft-shaded illustration style focused on light-hearted, voyeuristic and humorous erotic vignettes.
The stories follow a playful, metaphor-driven theme in which the main characters, depicted as charming well-endowed women, act as the titular ‘pollinators’ (or ‘polinators’ in the idiosyncratic English of the Italian publisher). The scenarios are built around accidental encounters, steamy domestic scenes, and the playful subversion of everyday situations.
As well as being published in English by Selen, The Polinators was released as part of a French comic book series called ‘Selen présente’ by the publisher Vents d’Ouest. The French title is Les butineuses, which translates directly to English as ‘the pollinators’.
