Following the success of La comtesse rouge, Dominique Leroy commissioned a set of illustrations from Pichard to accompany Vâtsyâyana’s classic Indian lovemaking manual Kama Sutra. After the violence and torture of Marie-Gabrielle and Erzsébet Báthory, Kama Sutra is blessedly violence-free, and demonstrates Pichard’s skill in designing single pages as works of art. It is also worth noting that compared with some of his earlier work, he has – of necessity in such a comprehensive work of sexual technique – learned how to draw more lifelike lingams.
Kama Sutra was published in two volumes and translated into several languages including English.
