Jeux d’enfants (Childsplay) is our title for another early commission from Rojan, a portfolio slipped into an anonymous and unlabelled grey folder to be treasured by its owner, probably until after their death it appeared in a sale of their ‘library’.

The young man in his blue overalls (and cap, which symbolically stays on the whole time) and the young woman in the pink dress are clearly enjoying getting to know each other intimately; it feels as though this is what youthful sex should look like in a culture of shame-free sexual exploration. It has a similar innocent quality of youthful exploration to Suzanne Ballivet’s Initiation Amoureuse portfolio of twenty years later, which you can see here; it would be interesting to know whether she knew of Rojan’s erotic work when she imagined her young lovers.
