Uniechowski had the rare skill, shared only with a few similar artists including Marcel Vertès and Heinrich Zille, of being able to depict fairly complex scenes with the minimum of well-chosen lines and shading. He also had a keen erotic interest and a fertile imagination, qualities which few of those who loved his work knew about – many of his several hundred erotic drawings only emerged after his death.
This selection of Uniechowski’s drawings was never intended as book illustrations, but they clearly gave him great pleasure. The joy and energy of sexual encounter, with the occasional inclusion of a little light sado-masochism, is clearly apparent, even if sometimes agreements around consent may have been in short supply.
